Ferdinand was born in 1893.  Ferdinand's father was William Boehnen and his mother was Mary Anne Bowar.  His paternal grandparents were Ferdinand Boehnen and Margaretha Neison; his maternal grandparents were Laurenz Bowar and Sybilla Schlimgen.  He was the fourth of five children.  He had a brother and three sisters, named Leo, Ida, Rosa and Gertrude.
