John was born in 1857.  John's father was Laurenz Bowar and his mother was Sybilla Schlimgen.  His paternal grandparents were Franz Bouvard and Catherine Isler; his maternal grandparents were Johann Schlimgen and Christina Schuetz.  He was the oldest of ten children.  He had six brothers and three sisters, named Mathias, Lawrence, Joseph, Charles, Henry, Frank, Mary, Josephine and Christine.  He died at the age of 81 on March 30th, 1938.
