James was born on June 8th, 1807.  James' father was Joseph Essex and his mother was Nancy Mcloy.  His maternal grandparents were James Mcloy and Rachel Moody.  He was the third of ten children.  He had four brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Joseph, Issac, William, Elizabeth, Mary, Nancy, Rhuamy and Hannah.  He died at the age of 91 on August 7th, 1898.
