Thomas was born in 1799 in Virginia, USA.  Thomas' father was Joseph Essex and his mother was Nancy Mcloy.  His maternal grandparents were James Mcloy and Rachel Moody.  He was the oldest of ten children.  He had four brothers and five sisters, named James, Joseph, Issac, William, Elizabeth, Mary, Nancy, Rhuamy and Hannah.  He died at the age of 60 on July 2nd, 1859 in Larue, Kentucky, USA.
