Frederick was born on August 14th, 1885.  Frederick's father was Joseph John Fergen and his mother was Katherine Elizabeth Schlimgen.  His maternal grandparents were Mathias Schlimgen and Katharine Elizabeth Schell.  He was the oldest of six children.  He had three brothers and two sisters, named Albert, Joseph, Herbert, Amelia and Josephine.
