Lawrence was born on February 17th, 1864.  Lawrence's father is Engelbert Schlimgen and his mother is Sarah Trogner.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Schlimgen and Christina Schuetz.  He is the fourth of eleven children.  He has five brothers and five sisters, named Joseph, John, George, Edward, Ambrose, Elizabeth, Anna, Mary, Christina and Mathilda.
