Roman was born in 1878.  Roman's father was Mathias Schlimgen and his mother was Katharine Elizabeth Schell.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Schlimgen and Christina Schuetz.  He was the youngest of fourteen children.  He had seven brothers and six sisters, named John, Lawrence, Mathias, Charles, Lawrence, Frank, Augusta, Anna, Katharina, Katherine, Josephine, Josephine and Minnie.  He died in 1878.
